We assess and rate buildings using a transparent, scientific methodology developed in partnership with urban planners and experts from the bicycling and active travel industry. Certification Process
The certification process typically takes 4 to 5 weeks to complete. Once you confirm your interest to certify, our team will gather some initial information about your asset and issue an invoice.
Key Certification Stages
Information Gathering
You’ll receive a questionnaire to provide detailed project information and supporting documentation, such as building specifications, floor plans, and, if available, photographs.
Preliminary Assessment
Once you submit your materials, our team will review them and deliver a Preliminary Assessment report. This includes your initial rating, any requests for missing information, and suggestions to improve your score.
Revisions and Resubmission
You’ll then have the opportunity to make improvements based on our feedback and submit updated evidence.
Formal Assessment
After reviewing your final submission, we’ll issue a Formal Assessment that includes your certificate, final report, and opportunities to help you market and celebrate your achievement.
Continuous Improvement
We recognise that sustainable transport is not just about the present, but the future. Our framework allows property owners to actively improve year-on-year, meeting evolving global standards.
Recertification
Recertification is required every two or three years, depending on a certification’s commencement. This ensures continued high performance aligned with planning standards and best practices.

Our methodology measures three aspects of Active Travel
Infrastructure
What physical facilities does your building have? These include bike racks, clothing lockers, showers and way-finding. Can tenants access the facilities freely and easily?
Tenant Engagement Services
What Active Travel services are available for the people in your building? This includes bike servicing, laundry services and Active Travel user groups.
Future-Proofing
Does your building have a strategy for Ative Travel expansion? Can your tenants be confident that their building is as future-proof as possible?
Health and Well-being
ActiveScore originated from a need within real estate. After meetings with several leading landlords, developers & agents, we learned that health and well-being facilities mattered almost as much to users as rent and internet connectivity.
